Launch of the 2020 OECD Business and Finance Outlook: Sustainable and Resilient Finance: Leveraging

The 2020 edition of the OECD Business and Finance outlook focuses on sustainable and resilient finance, in particular the environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors that are rapidly becoming a part of mainstream finance. It evaluates current ESG practices, and identifies priorities and actions to better align investments with sustainable, long-term value – especially the need for more consistent, comparable and available data on ESG performance.
The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the urgent need to consider resilience in finance, both in the financial system itself and in the role played by capital and investors in making economic and social systems more dynamic and able to withstand external shocks.
Join us online for a presentation of the findings in the Outlook and a high-level discussion on what governments and businesses can and should be doing to drive more sustainable and resilient outcomes in finance, for the COVID-19 recovery and beyond.

Financing Sustainability Solutions

Today, 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and 3.6 billion lack safely managed sanitation. As the planet’s population grows towards 10 billion people, and climate events worsen in vulnerable regions, the demand for these basic resources will only increase. The water-food-climate nexus is already under huge strain, and requires technological advancements, among other innovative solutions, that can be scaled globally and applied across sectors in the coming years.

What role can financial institutions play in the development and deployment of large-scale innovations? How can they support the entrepreneurs and innovators driving the most cutting-edge technologies? What can they learn from existing initiatives, and the ways in which the water-food-climate nexus is being addressed right now?
